Thoughts for the New Year

January 14th, 2009

Starting this New Year has been one filled with uncertainty.  Will the economy get better, will any other financial institution collapse, and will the new president be able to handle all these problems.  It seems now more than ever we are all longing to find community, friends, and be close to our loved ones.  We need comfort and to feel connected to people since the external world does not provide us with much.  So many people have said they spent the holidays with friends and family and choosing to stay home versus going to parties or traveling.  Maybe with our world seeming so big and out of control we are stopping to take inventory of what matters.  The people we love, protecting our community and environment, and spending more meaningful time together.

Over the holidays my family and I spent hours talking, laughing and seeing people we had lost contact with.  My teenagers asked me to bring out the box of questions and engage in discussions with them and their friends.  What a treat.  Seven teenagers debating over Is there ever a reason to go to war?  I encourage all of you to have conversations at home or parties we all need to connect right now.  Please let us know which questions you have asked and if you have created any new ones we can all try.

Happy New Year Everyone!

What is your holiday wish this year?

December 18th, 2008

The other day after having a heated discussion with my seventeen year old daughter followed by another one from my fifteen year old daughter I wondered how would I survive these teen years. Then I realized I only have a few years left with them at home and I will miss these moments. So instead of my regular feeling stress, I felt gratitude for having this time with them.  I guess what I realized also is we have a choice in how we react to things in  our life, can’t control them.  Which then made me think about this holiday  season and all the uncertainty in the world today.  I can’t control the stock market, terrorism,  or my teenagers but I can choose the way I let it effect me.

The question of the week.  What is your holiday wish this year?  Mine is to appreciate those I love and not to let the uncertainty around me ruin the precious moments now.  Please share any of your holiday wishes with us and please have a wonderful holiday season.

Our QVC Appearance

December 1st, 2008

Heidi and I just got back from QVC.  What a great experience we had with the people there and our host was amazing.  We enjoyed sharing the Family Dinner Game with so many people and the importance of conversation with your friends and family.

I hope everyone has a special Thanksgiving filled with good food and good times.  Please share with us any new traditions you have done at your celebration or if you have used the box of questions any good stories.
The question of the week is what is your favorite family tradition?

All the best,
Cece Feiler

Life Transitions – Full-Time Mom to Working Mom

November 24th, 2008

This week I will be on QVC with my business partner and best-friend Heidi Haddad, Nov 25 at 10AM EST. I am very excited for this opportunity. This new experience made me think about the new chapter I am entering in my life. Working again and transitioning from being a full time mom.

Our lives fall into chapters in a great book, Chapter 1 The child years, Chapter 2 The teen years, Chapter 3 The college years, Chapter 4 My first Job, Chapter 5 Marriage Chapter 6 marriage with children, Chapter 7Giving up work and being a full time mom and now Chapter 8 My kids the teenagers and what will I do when they all leave?

Some of you may have different chapters in your book of life. Divorce, death, re-marriage, but we all have chapters that include transitions from one way we lived to another. This new chapter I am entering is exciting new opportunities to make our company grow to reach out to more people, but it is also sad. Thinking about my oldest daughter leaving in year for college brings tears, you know those mixed ones I am happy she hopefully will go to a college for her choice but looking at her empty bedroom………..

My question to all of you is what chapter are you in and what is like?

Hope you can watch us on QVC Tuesday November 25 10:00am est.

Happy Thanksgiving

The Box of Questions

November 19th, 2008

I know as a mother of three I am always reaching out to my other friends who are parents to learn new and creative ways to communicate with my kids and tips on parenting. Even though I had been a Marriage and Family Therapist, studied psychology in graduated school I still feel when it comes to my kids I need help. I believe it “takes a community to raise children”.

When my best friend Heidi and I created the Box of Questions six years ago it happened as a way to handle what could have been a disaster dinner for our 2 families. With 6 kids between us ranging between the ages of 6 to 11 and 2 hungry husbands we were out to dinner with very slow service. As melt downs started we began to ask questions some fun others serious and changed the dinner into one of the most meaningful experiences together. We have found the box of questions has been a great tool for our own families, friends and the larger community. » Read more: The Box of Questions
