Planning a Bridal Shower or Baby Shower?

March 3rd, 2009

My niece got engaged in October and I, of course, want to plan a bridal shower for her.  I realized that the guest list would consist of all our relatives ranging from age 87 (some of which are not from the U.S.)  to her youngest cousin who is five.  I will also be inviting her friends,  who are very artsy interesting and in their mid- twenties.

Well, in thinking about blending all these groups. I realized the new Bridal Shower Box of Questions would be great.  Thinking back to my own showers 20 years ago, we could have used this kind of conversation starter at each table to bring everyone together in a fun, engaging way.  I called my niece and she loved the idea!  In fact, she knew about the other boxes and was going to suggest we use one of them; she was very excited that we had one for bridal showers.  It felt pretty cool that my twenty seven year old graphic designer niece wanted to use the box!!!

When I think back to my bridal showers and baby showers,  there were always a mixture of people who knew each other, new friends, older relatives.  We struggled with the seating wondering how could we make this fun?  I know The Box of Questions would of been great.  Also, how wonderful for all your guests to get to know other people at such a special event, or discover new things about people they already know.   We all love games and finding a way to connect with each other at these special life events.  For all of you like me who are moving into the bridal shower or baby shower rounds again try this out .  We can share our stories of the beauty of good conversations and fun in this new stage in our lives.  I’ll let you know how it goes with my niece’s shower not happening for a few months but I have to start planning now!

Thoughts for the New Year

January 14th, 2009

Starting this New Year has been one filled with uncertainty.  Will the economy get better, will any other financial institution collapse, and will the new president be able to handle all these problems.  It seems now more than ever we are all longing to find community, friends, and be close to our loved ones.  We need comfort and to feel connected to people since the external world does not provide us with much.  So many people have said they spent the holidays with friends and family and choosing to stay home versus going to parties or traveling.  Maybe with our world seeming so big and out of control we are stopping to take inventory of what matters.  The people we love, protecting our community and environment, and spending more meaningful time together.

Over the holidays my family and I spent hours talking, laughing and seeing people we had lost contact with.  My teenagers asked me to bring out the box of questions and engage in discussions with them and their friends.  What a treat.  Seven teenagers debating over Is there ever a reason to go to war?  I encourage all of you to have conversations at home or parties we all need to connect right now.  Please let us know which questions you have asked and if you have created any new ones we can all try.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Parents Connect With The Girlfriends Box!

July 22nd, 2008

Parents Connect has an interesting take on the Girlfriends Box for new moms:

With all the baby-birthing going on among your group of friends, you’ve hardly had time to take showers, let alone spend any quality girl-time the way you used to.

Every new mom needs some time out for connecting with her Girlfriends!

Don’t Forget Mom on Mother’s Day (May 11) !

April 28th, 2008

From our “Girlfriends Box of Questions:”

What woman has had the greatest impact on your life?

I’ll bet your mom will have the same answer you do!  Mothers have a tremendous impact on our lives, teaching us to be nurturing and caring human beings.

Why not give Mom something really special to remember this year, like one of our fantastic boxes? Mom will appreciate such a unique gift on her special day. The Girlfriends Box of Questions is a perfect gift for her special get togethers with her girlfriends.

And Mom might appreciate a break from entertaining the troops at dinner; our Family Dinner box is also a great gift for Mother’s Day.

Have a very happy Mother’s Day all you Moms! We love you!
